Aleutian Island Stream

This is a view of one of the streams that came down from the mountains and volcanoes. Once in a while there would be salmon in the streams. Our food delivery plane was not always on schedule because of bad weather, and we occasionally added salmon and caribou to our food supply. Bears were always seen near these streams. There were round indentations in the ground near this area, lush with green growth, and covered with lots of sea urchin remnants. These are the last signs of the Aleut people on this island, and are the sites that they built their homes on , many years ago. We would sometimes find arrowheads and things while hiking, and there was a huge carved stone whale oil lamp on the beach, used like a lighthouse for ancient fishermen and travelers.
